A MAP 150 Demonstration Project

Project Overview
The nonpartisan Citizens League, as part of its MAP 150 initiative, is partnering with the League of Minnesota Cities to find out from citizens: What do Minnesotans really want to know about their property taxes?

The Latest from Property Tax Facts:
We’ve put together some data on school district property tax levy referenda on a new School District Referenda page. If your school district has an operating levy on the ballot in 2007, you can go here to find information on your district and compare it with others.

As taxpayers we are investors in our communities and in our state. Yet the information we are often given is confusing or not really what we want to know. Because our property tax system is so fractured and complicated, answers can be hard to find.

As an investor, what type of information do you want to know? How can that information be communicated in a way that is useful and relevant? What are your expectations of public officials in providing this information?

One of the first things we learned from taxpayers in Washington, Ramsey and Morrison counties is that they want better data on school district taxes. In light of the 99 operating levy referenda on the ballot this fall, we have put together some easy to use data, which you can find via our Property Tax Web site. You can register and take part in discussions, take our survey, or look at the data.

Maybe you don’t think about property taxes at all… we want to hear from you. Maybe you think a lot about property taxes and have all sorts of ideas on how things should operate… we want to hear from you. No matter what your experiences have been, as an investor in the future of our state your voice in this discussion matters.

Goals
Join us! Our goal is to develop a practical tool that will help public officials meaningfully engage with citizens about property taxes.
